Arguably the Best Coffee in all of San Diego at Lofty Coffee in Encinitas
“Coffee with a friend is like capturing happiness in a cup.” -Anonymous
If you have lived in San Diego for more than a few months and you don’t know what Lofty Coffee is, you’re in for a big surprise. Lofty Coffee is a coffee shop in Encinitas, with a second location in Solana Beach. People come from all over town to line up for this delicious coffee that they serve from 6:00am-6:00pm seven days a week. (Saturdays and Sundays they open at 7:00am) My friend Lori loves this place because they have “good coffee, freshly roasted, a chill atmosphere and nice simple eats.” I completely agree with her. Every time I visit Lofty Coffee, there is a line out the door, and it’s rare to be able to find a table without having to wait for 10 minutes or so during peak hours. This place is seriously addictive! Although Lofty is known for its coffee, there are many reasons regulars love this place. Here’s what you should know about one of San Diego’s most favorite coffee shops:
Location, location, location. Lofty Coffee is located in Encinitas and they also have a Solana Beach location. Their most popular Encinitas shop is off of N. Coast Highway 101, right around the corner from Moonlight Beach, one of the best beaches in the entire town. Surfers can head over to Lofty after a quick surf sesh, and families can stroll down in the morning on their way to the park. The Lofty Coffee “ethos” (or motto) starts with: “Lofty is a place for the community to gather, enjoy great food and drink while sharing this beautiful place we call home” and truly signifies what the Lofty cafes stand for. Each location is specifically designed to mold right into the community, and bring people together to enjoy the beach, warm weather, and happy people. Whether it’s after a yoga class at Indigo Dragon Center, or simply an early morning coffee run for your spouse, heading to Lofty is the perfect activity for anyone living a true San Diego lifestyle.
Quality tastes. Obviously I think everyone can agree that the coffee and tea that they serve at Lofty is some of the best, possibly in the entire world. Besides their varieties of coffee and tea (which you can buy online here), they also bake fresh muffins, cookies and croissants daily. They press their own organic juice, make their own almond milk, and steep their own chai. Creating almost all of their own simple ingredients helps bring out the best in flavor in each baked good and drink that they serve. These tastes are what the people in San Diego flock to this coffee shop for, and I totally understand why.
Coffee Roaster. Lofty also is a coffee roaster! Just across the street from Lofty Coffee in Encinitas there is a larger building where they roast their own coffee. Roasting coffee is the process of turning the coffee beans into coffee products that we can enjoy. Lofty Coffee looks for farms, co-ops and importers from all around the world that grow and transport the coffee beans in a sustainable way that agrees with Lofty’s ethos. They sure do a wonderful job of this because locals in San Diego can clearly tell the difference between Lofty Coffee and other coffee shops. My friend J.D. Davids loves Lofty because of its, “bold flavors, fresh roasted beans, beach hipster ambiance, and it doesn’t hurt that the beach is just two blocks away.” Ask anyone in Encinitas, this place ROCKS!
Stop in to one of the two locations that Lofty Coffee currently has to try out their coffee or tea this week. (And guess what?! They’re opening a third location soon!!!) You will enjoy the location of either of their shops, and you will LOVE the tastes you experience. If you visit the Encinitas location, check out the coffee roaster just across the street. You’ll fall in love, and finally understand what everyone is talking about when they talk about “Lofty”! Have you been to Lofty Coffee? What do you like to order? I’d love to know.
