Andaz Hotel San Diego

The Andaz Hotel San Diego is a boutique-style hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter of Downtown San Diego. The hotel has 159 rooms with 17 suites. The Andaz allows you to room with your dog at no additional cost. Please keep in mind, only dogs weighing 50 pounds and under or two dogs under a combined weight of 75 pounds are permitted. Hyatt owns the Andaz, so you can use your Gold Passport points at the hotel. The hotel has a four out of five star rating on both Trip Advisor and Yelp! I think it is a great place due to its location and the super cute boutique nature of the hotel.

Andaz Hotel San Diego, which used to be called the Ivy for long term San Diego residents, has a cool Wine Bar, and is one of a small number of places that has a rooftop bar and lounge with really great views. The pool at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego is also on a rooftop, but it is the third floor. The Andaz rooftop bar and lounge, called RoofTop600, has amazing city views. Even on a cool night, there are plenty of heat lamps, so it’s very comfortable.

By day, RoofTop600 is available to hotel guests and diners. It has a great pool with terrific city views. They serve a menu that uses only organic, locally sourced ingredients. The rooftop restaurant serves breakfast and lunch featuring American cuisine with a Southern California twist. By night, RoofTop600 has a nightlife experience that is really fun and different. There is a large dance floor, but you can also find places to sit and stand where you don’t have to yell to talk to each other, unlike most of the indoor nightclubs in San Diego. This is a great venue for grabbing a drink and watching the sunset before the nightclub gets into full swing. The nightclub offers a full VIP bottle service that is pretty reasonably priced compared to the competition in San Diego. . The hotel also features ongoing Andaz Salon Events showcasing local artists, musicians, culture and cocktails.

A very cool thing that the Andaz has just announced is a Pop-Up Beer Garden at RoofTop600. This limited-time venue is open daily starting at 12 p.m. through April 2016. The German-inspired food and drink menus feature local craft beers and perfectly paired bites.

“A cold, sudsy brew just taste better in a laid-back environment, especially one set against the backdrop of spectacular downtown views of San Diego like from RoofTop600,” said Jeffrey Miller, General Manager of Andaz San Diego. “Our new Beer Garden is the hottest spot downtown to enjoy San Diego’s popular craft beer culture in a unique way.”

I’ve found the best nights to go to RoofTop600 are Thursday through Saturday, like most nightclubs in the Gaslamp. Upscale casual attire enforced on weekends.
