Bates Nut Farm’s Pumpkin Patch to Open September 21, 2019

Valley Center, CA – The Pumpkin Patch at Bates Nut Farm in Valley Center is scheduled to open on Saturday, September 21, 2019.  It will be open daily through Wednesday, October 31, 2018.  Over 50 years of fall traditions and memories have been created at the farm.  As in years past, families and friends will enjoy the tractor hayrides, straw maze, petting corral, Snow’s Pony Rides, great food, live entertainment on the weekends and fresh country air.

The many varieties of pumpkins to choose from include the white Ghost pumpkins, Cinderella or Fairy Tale, traditional Jack o’ Lantern, and mini pumpkins.  The stars of the pumpkin patch are Bates Nut Farm’s farm grown Big Mac pumpkins that visitors can pick right from the fields.  And of course, the pumpkin patch makes a great backdrop for photos. 

Weekends at Bates have many special events and activities in addition to the regular attractions.  From 12-3 each Saturday and Sunday and 4-7 pm on select Friday evenings there will be live music on the Bates stage.  Family friendly activities include a rock climb, bounce house, slide and more.  Hungry visitors can choose from What’s Cookin’ BBQ, kettle corn, and food trucks. Special events include “Celebrating Farm Life” Farm Education & Youth Days 9/28-9/29, Antique Tractor show 9/28 & 9/29, the Pumpkin Festival Craft Fair 10/5 & 10/6, Scarecrow Contest 10/12, Howl-o-Ween Doggie Costume Contest & Parade on 10/26, and the Costume Contest & Parade 10/27.  The entertainment and food truck lineup is posted on www.batesnutfarm.biz along with extended hours and other special events.

Celebrating Farm Life – Sept. 28/29

Bates Nut Farm will again host “Celebrating Farm Life” Farm Education & Youth Days.  This annual event takes place on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29 from 10:00 -4:00 and features representatives from the local farming and agricultural community.  They will share unique and diverse stories of their “Life on the Farm” experiences.  People of all ages are invited to come and learn about a variety of farm activities.   “We’ve gathered a wide array of individuals who will share their farming techniques and experiences. These are active groups operating in the North County area”, says fourth generation Bates family member Sherrie Bates Ness. “This will definitely be an educational and memorable experience for the entire family.”

Visitors will learn about beekeeping, wool spinning, organic gardening and more.  Bates Nut Farm will be offering their two educational presentations throughout the day.The “Nuts for You” tour provides education about nuts and includes a behind the scenes tour of Bates Nut Farm operations.  Visitors will also learn about pumpkins and how they grow in the “Life of a Pumpkin” presentation and skit.

In addition to the exhibits, there will be live music both days from 12:00 – 3:00, great food from What’s Cookin’ BBQ, Snow’s Pony Rides, a petting corral, straw maze and hayrides around the farm. The Early Days Gas Engine and Tractor Association will also be at the farm with antique tractors, equipment and quilt display.  Antique tractor parades take place at 11:00 and 2:00 both days.
