Jessica McGehee, a military family wife and mother, has won the National My Cookie Story contest and visited San Diego lately to celebrate! Barnes & Noble’s My Cookie Story Contest was a special cookie contest they hosted during the 2018 holiday season, where customers shared their favorite cookie recipes and the stories behind them with Barnes & Noble and a panel of nationally-renowned chefs and bakers, for the chance to win $5,000 and the opportunity to have their cookie sold at all Barnes & Noble Cafés nationwide during the upcoming 2019 holiday season.

McGehee’s cookie recipe and the story behind it were chosen from over one thousand submissions across the country due to their creativity and originality. The ingredients in McGehee’s “Taste of Home Cookie Bar” represent the states her 7-year-old daughter has lived in as part of a military family, including marshmallows from their first snow in North Carolina, to course bits of sugar on top representing the sandy deserts of Arizona.

“We received many great stories and recipes from around the country telling us about the special memories and moments that come from baking,” said Neil Strong, Vice President of Café Operations for Barnes & Noble. “But Jessica’s McGehee’s submission of a cookie with ingredients representing the different places her family has lived due to her husband’s job in the military both moved us for its story, as well as impressed us for its baking creativity.”

On February 9th, at the Chula Vista store, Barnes & Noble’s national head of Café, Neil Strong, as well as local booksellers, celebrated McGehee and presented her with a $5,000 check at a special awards ceremony. Samples of her award-winning cookie were be served at the event, and they will be available for you to try all year long!

“I’m so happy that Barnes & Noble and the judges recognized our story and this recipe for its cookie contest. I can’t wait for customers around the country to try the cookie over the holidays and hopefully be reminded of the service and sacrifice of military families around the country,” McGehee said. Will you stop by a Barnes & Noble this year to try her sweet treats?! We sure will!! Congrats Jessica!!
