It’s been a week since I completed the Tom Ferry Success Summit on August 10-13, 2015 in San Diego. Tom Ferry is a top real estate coach and speaker, a New York Times best-selling author, and named by the Inman News as ‘Most Influential in Real Estate.’ Tom is also the CEO of Tom Ferry, his own international coaching and training company. He was named #1 Real Estate Educator by Swanepoel Power 200 and is the best-selling author of Life! By Design.
As you’d expect, since it’s only been a week since the Summit concluded, I feel completely on track to achieve all of the goals that I set for myself during the seminar. Of course, it is a little overwhelming, but I’m feeling really good. I truly feel as if something has changed on the inside of me. I have the same fire and desire I’ve always had, but with a new focus and sense of purpose. This seminar was one of the most inspirational events of my life. It made me laugh, cry, yell, and sing!
It was the perfect time for me to participate in a seminar like this. I’ve lived in California just over a year (having moved from ice cold Michigan,) passed the California Bureau of Real Estate (CalBRE,) exam for my California real estate license and joined Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices (BHHS) as a real estate sales associate. Also, I have also been engaged for a year and my son is entering second grade on Monday! Maybe it was perfect timing because of the new way I had just started to look at my life. Possibly it was because I just joined an amazing group of real estate professionals as a team member of the INDRA Group. Maybe it was simply because Tom Ferry is awesome! In any case, it was a tremendously life-changing experience, and I felt totally ready to receive the entire message.
When I joined BHHS in early January, my manager told me that everyone in the company was invited to the Tom Ferry Success Summit in August and that it would be a really great experience for me. I remember thinking at the time, Oh, that will be great—a little refresher course after making it big in a few months. Haha! Over the last several months, I have been doing a lot of real estate training, including Brian Buffini’s lead generation and database organization systems. I’ve also given my first out-of-state real estate referral, now have my first listing, and am working hard to build my network and cultivate relationships with new clients. Even though I have accomplished a lot, I still feel far behind the attitude and mindset I had on that first day talking to my manager about the Summit. Nonetheless, I was very excited to attend this year. I thought it would be a great opportunity to get tips and tricks on how to become very successful in real estate, and build stronger relationships with my new team, the INDRA Group.
Ever since entering real estate, I have always wanted to reach the top—to be a peak performer. I’ve always had a lot of drive and passion, but I lacked the direction to achieve great things. When I think about peak performers, even though they may all have different styles and personalities, I think they share a common set of characteristics. I’ve always wanted to set up my life exactly like that, but I didn’t believe that my reasoning was strong enough. I didn’t believe in myself. At this point in the story, Tom Ferry would stop me. He’d ask the audience, “Has anyone ever felt like that? Yes, or yes?!” Tom Ferry and his guest speakers emphasize taking action. They emphasize aligning your behaviors with your goals and dreams. Having goals is the most important thing and acting on them consistently is just as important.
I learned so much from this seminar. I’ve taken a step back to look at what my life really is, and where it is going. More than any other business experience, this seminar not only impacted my mind, but it touched my heart. In the first 24 hours after returning home from the final day, I created a mantra—a set of phrases to say in the morning to motivate myself. I created a schedule and put my tasks in exact time slots. Before this seminar, I would simply make a long, unorganized list of things to do for the day or week. I learned that time blocking is important. Everyone in my life now knows that if something is not in my schedule with a time blocked for it, I likely won’t get it done. They know that my planner is important, and since they are special people in my life, I set aside time just for them.
I’ve had the benefit of having a fiancé, a successful business person, as a mentor. Now I am part of a team where we can all hold each other accountable, help support, and motivate each other. Our team decided immediately after leaving the conference, during lunch together, that we would implement a few of Tom Ferry’s strategies. Day 3 of the conference was all about teams, and we heard a few messages loud and clear. Here are the five key things we plan to implement right away:
1. Stay organized with a whiteboard in our office where we can keep track of what we want to do, what we are doing, and what we have done. We love this idea!
2. Step up our marketing strategies and plans for the rest of 2015, far into 2016, and every day thereafter.
3. Maintain the INDRA Group commitment to being a part of the Rancho Santa Fe community and surrounding areas. There are several key ways this naturally brings more buyers to their listed homes.
4. Remain dedicated to providing world-class customer service, top-notch market knowledge, and the unmatched Berkshire Hathaway backing.
5. Take advantage that San Diego is a mecca of wonderful opportunities for real estate investment. The INDRA Group presents these opportunities to our database of investor clients that are constantly looking for homes coming onto the market.
Going to the Tom Ferry Summit really set the tone for the goals that my group has for our future, and I wake up every day more excited about my life.
